Language Requirements: English

 

Many international Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg are offered in English. For admission to these programmes, applicants need to provide evidence of an adequate knowledge of English, usually B2 or C1 level of the European Framework of Reference. The most commonly accepted tests are:

  • TOEFL-Test: B2 (72-94 iBT) or C1 (95-120 iBT) (we also accept TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition)
  • IELTS: B2 (minimum score band 6.0) or C1 (7.0) (we also accept IELTS Indicator and IELTS Online)  
  • CAE (Certificate of Advanced English)
  • PTE Academic: B2 (59-75) or C1 (76-84)

Please check the specific language requirements for the brief description of your studies, which language certificates are accepted. 

Some applicants are exempt from showing an additional proof of their English proficiency. This is the case for the following:

Secondary school leaving certificates from…

  • Australia
  • Canada (all provinces except Quebec and New Brunswick)
  • USA (High School Diploma)

and:

  • British and international GCE A-Level certificates
  • Irish Leaving Certificate
  • New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement
  • Scottish Qualifications Certificate

If the degree programme was completed in the respective country, university degrees from

  • Australia
  • Great Britain
  • Ireland
  • Canada (except degrees from the provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick)
  • New Zealand
  • USA

 

All other applicants must submit official language certificates with their application.
