We highly recommend that you endeavour to find grant or scholarship opportunities in order to finance your stay abroad. The following programmes can mostly also be used by freemovers who organise their mobilities on own initiative.

Auslandsbafög

Independent of the entitlement to receive BAföG benefits within Germany, BAföG for terms abroad might grant you some funding opportunities. A basic prerequisite for Auslands-BAföG is the guarantee that courses and credits passed abroad are transferrable to your study programme at home. You need to hand in your application for Auslands-BAföG at specialised offices of the STDW Student Services, but not with the STDW Magdeburg. DAAD Scholarships (e.g. PROMOS, One-Year Scholarship etc.)

The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) awards scholarships for studying abroad which you can find in the DAAD Scholarship Database. Reward based on study performance. It is highly important to gather information in due time (at least 1.5 years before your planned departure).

PROMOS-Scholarship: for study stays abroad from 1 to 6 months. Reward based on study performance. Two application deadlines per year: 31 January, or 15 June.

DAAD One-Year Scholarship: for study stays abroad lasting two terms. You must apply directly with the DAAD. Please check out the deadlines in due time!

Fulbright Study Scholarships for German nationals planning to study in the USA (call for applications in mid-May for academic year after next year)

Fulbright Travel Scholarships for German nationals planning to study in the USA at one of OVGU's partner universities (call for applications in early November for the following academic year)
