The "GUERICKE helps!" Emergency Aid Fund was established in 2020 in the middle of the Corona crisis as a joint action between Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and the Society of Friends and Supporters of Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg e.V.. As a result of the measures to combat the virus, many students have also lost their part-time jobs with which they finance their lives and also their studies. The emergency fund "GUERICKE helps!" was intended to help alleviate the financial worries of students in need.

Students could apply for funding and receive one-time grants of 450 euros each. Over 90,000 euros were donated within a short period of time by university members, partners, students, private individuals, and friends and supporters of the university. In this way, students received support quickly and unbureaucratically.
