 The Institute for Mechanics belongs to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Otto-von-Gtuericke-University Magdeburg. It consists of the five chairs Strength of Materials, Technical Dynamics, Numerical Mechanics, Technical Mechanics and Adaptronic including Experimental Mechanics.

In the institute education, advanced education, and research are concentrated.

 

In the institute both fundamental and applied research is performed. The analytical, numerical and experimental  fundamental research is predominantly directed towards methods, and the results enter directly the education.

Magdeburg Association for Technical Mechanics
This Association has been founded in 1994 by members of the institute. It is meant to promote scientific research and the education in the field of Technical Mechanics. It is editor of the international scientific journal “
Technische Mechanik”.
