Computer Games / Players / Game Cultures
Welcome to the official website of the international Conference "Computer Games / Players / Game Cultures: State and Perspectives of Digital Game Studies". The conference took place in Magdeburg, Germany, from 19 to 21 March 2009. The conference was organized and hosted by the Chair in Media Research and Adult Education (Prof. Dr. Johannes Fromme) at the Otto-von-Guericke-University of Magdeburg. The conference functioned simultaneously as the "Spring Conference" of the Media Education Commission of the German Association for Educational Science.
The conference focused on aesthetic, social, cultural and educational aspects of computer games, including persistent multiplayer game worlds like MMOGs. More than 40 talks from national and international Scientists were been held at the conference, providing an interdisciplinary forum to present and reflect upon the state of the digital game studies, as well as discuss perspectives for the future. The programme also included a forum for PhD-students, a poster-session and a panel discussion concerning the controversy around videogame- and online-addiction.
The keynote-speeches, the panel discussion as well as the press conference, outlining a manifesto for media-education have been recorded and can be accessed along with some visual impressions from the conference on this website.
